A Squishy Sunday

This Sunday morning I thought I was making good time, having showered and curled my hair before my kids were up.
First they started freaking out over a giant wolf 🕷️ on the floor in the hallway. 😱
I had to (bravely) run past it to find a shoe as all four kids watched in fear..
The closest shoes were Scott’s crocks in the mud room around the corner. I quickly slipped them on my feet and shuffled back, hoping NOT to hear shrieks as the creepy crawly scurried away..
Ok awesome, it was still in the same spot as if four radars had frozen it into place. 😬 There’s nothing scarier than a big spider that speeds away and hides under something, WAITING to pounce on you as you walk by unsuspectingly! 😱
I raised one foot up high and slammed it down, splattering the spider. 💪
All the children breathed sighs of relief, cheered, and giggled at my shivers!! 🙌 “Yayyyyy, Mama, you’re so BRAVE!“ 😅
Then Val barked for my attention. I almost forgot about the morning runs I started with her- Sundays are no exception.. 😅
I almost always see something cool before 8 am. This morning was misty after two solid days of thunderstorms.

Squishing in my rubber boots and trying to keep Val out of puddles, I spotted a turtle! 🐢
I wondered why it was so still by the tree next to our garden. When I reached in my jacket pocket for my phone to get a photo it wasn’t there. Val and I ran back to the house to find it.
Ana said I had put it in the pocket of my dress. It must have fallen on the ground. Ugh 😑
Back outside, my furry, confused companion and I retraced our steps to no avail. I must have absentmindedly set my phone down to slip on my rain jacket. 🙄
Ahh! Found it sitting safely on top of the stack of🥚 cartons by the door waiting to be returned to our Egg Lady. Lol!
Sometimes I wish I could play a video back to find what I lost and laugh at myself when my hands move things without consulting my brain. 😆
Back in the yard, I discovered
the poor turtle stuck in the deer fence that I hadn’t thrown away after it was ripped down and tangled by all the Oklahoma winds! 😫
Rather than dragging Val back to the house for the 3rd time to get the scissors I decided to call my compassionate husband, who arrived in just a minute.
Scott carefully cut the net from the turtle’s tangled toes and set it gently on the ground, its head still hiding.
Val was so excited to resume our regular run that she bolted and nearly tripped me when she suddenly changed direction! She was in a hurry to 💩 and still wanted her 2 laps around the property!
So, a 10 min run turned into thirty. By the time I got inside to feed the kids my hair limp. The twenty minutes it took to curl it for church was a complete waste of time. 🙄 A curling iron is pointless in Oklahoma boonies!
My Mom used to say she was “wind blown from Saskatchewan.”
I’m a Canadian-born, 33-year Michigander, now “wind-blown from Oklahoma!” 😁
Content to live the rest of my life here in this beautiful, windy, adventurous state where neighbors help one another, I can hear the sounds of coyotes, frogs, crickets, cardinals, owls, and so many other birds, see deer and other critters, gorgeous sunsets and stars shining bright in our own yard! I THINK I’ll gradually get braver about spiders & snakes! 😬
God is so good! I couldn’t possibly ask for a better place to raise our second set of children. Plus, be closer to two of our big kids and future grandkids 😉 Maybe God will also bring our other two here some day! 🙏
“Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them.”
